(Not) A Chore: New Tom Vek Video Surfaces.

The return of Tom Vek has been the cause of much OMGing over the past few days, but I’ll be honest with you here – back in 2005 I was nowhere near cool enough to know who he was, so his debut album We Have Sound kinda passed me by. So when the video for his new single ‘A Chore’ showed up online, I thought I’d see what all the fuss was about:

Turns out it’s actually quiet enjoyable, featuring wonky synths matched up with clattering drums that sound like dubstep beats being played on dustbins, while Vek’s sing-speak vocals sound akin to a distant, southern cousin of the Jarman brothers. Plus the lyric “And what you belived was life/is no more than a chore” seems destined to strike a chord with many a disaffected soul. Or maybe that’s just me…

‘A Chore’ is available to download now, while Vek’s new album Leisure Seizure is coming out on the 6th June. If this news has excited you at all then you’ll probably want to know that he’s following the album release with a short UK tour:

June 2011:
13th – Manchester, Ruby Lounge
14th – Glasgow, Classic Grand
15th  – Birmingham, Library HMV Institute
16th – London, Heaven
18th – Brighton, Concorde 2

Tickets for the above tour go on sale tomorrow at 9am, so look sharp if you want ’em.
